Where I’ve Laid My Hat

I was born in the summer of 1977 in Christchurch, New Zealand. At the age of 3 my family moved from New Zealand’s third largest city to the small country town of Maungaturoto at the other end of the country. We lived there until I was 9 when we moved to the seaside community of Sandspit, out of Warkworth, New Zealand. There I attended the local High School. Another small town but only an hour from the country’s largest city, Auckland. Which is where I moved to attend University at 18.

My first year of University was spent in a central city hostel (O’Rorke), thereafter I lived in various inner-city suburbs (Mt Eden, Epsom, Newmarket) with friends until I graduated with a degree with double majors in Philosophy and Psychology. Except for a 6 month period living in the country’s capital, Wellington, I lived in Auckland for the rest of the time (Parnell, CBD) until early 2007.

In 2002 I married my partner of several years, Joanna at a ceremony held in the Winter Gardens of the Auckland Domain. We currently live in an apartment in Wellington Central. In August of 2005 we renewed our commitment but at the same time changed our unions legal status from marriage to civil union to more accurately reflect our relationship and our belief in the role of relationships in society.
